Although I had pre-paid and checked in without question, after I checked out and just after I called an Uber to go to the airport, staff accused me of not paying for my stay and locked me in the hotel, demanding payment, while my Uber waited outside. I showed the staff the payment page on the Hotels.com app and they continued to demand payment. When I got out of the hotel and got in my Uber, the staff chased me out onto the street, stopped the car and tried to get me out of the car, telling the driver I hadn't paid. Fortunately, the Uber driver took my side and we left. I believe this hotel was trying to extort money out of me, hoping I would give them cash so I wouldn't miss my ride and my flight. They had a whole day to check that they had received payment (in a call after the episode, Hotels.com confirmed they did receive payment). I would warn all travellers against staying at this hotel. This was a dangerous and scary situation. I have informed Hotels.com of what happened and I have asked them to remove this property from their listings or risk liability for future travellers who are locked in the hotel and harassed for money. This was a frightening and horrible experience.
