We can highly recommend Garden Hotel and would definitely book again!
The hotel is well-located in the center of "ancient" Datong (although the center itself does not offer many sights). Close proximity to the main station (max. 15 mins by cab).
We arrived in the early morning (around 6:30 am) and thus our room was not ready yet (which was well-communicated by them in advance). However, they offered us another room to rest until the booked room was cleaned-up.
Very polite and friendly staff. Although their English is sometimes a bit bumpy, there is always at least one person that speaks English very well.
We booked a driver to the hanging temples via the hotel at a very fair price. Ask for Mr. Liu, who is probably the best driver in Datong and was one of the most friendly persons we met during our trip through China.
Breakfast was very good and rich, comprising western and Chinese food, e.g. freshly maked omelettes and Baozi. Room was large, clean and very well-equipped.
