Based on the reviews received by this property, our expectations were high. But arriving after dark, the entrance to the car park isn’t particularly well signposted from the main road and unlit. The biggest disappointment, however, was the supposedly ‘deluxe’ room. At least £60 more expensive than the ‘classic’ double, it was uninspiring and not particularly well laid out. There wasn’t even a table for in-room dining. Having said that, we aren’t sure if they even really offer room service as there was no menu in the room. The rooms are supposedly ‘newly designed and decorated’ but both chairs were badly stained, the toilet holder was broken and there was black mould at the bottom of the shower screen. General cleanliness was good but with some surprising oversights (eg large cobwebs hanging from ceiling, toiletry dispensers covered in product from previous occupants).
The good bits: shower, bed and bedding were excellent and dinner very tasty. Breakfast was underwhelming. Whilst the Eggs Benedict were lovely, the buffet offerings were decidedly meagre and the server had an attitude. Overall, we would have been rather unhappy if we had paid the going rate.
