This was my second stay at the Royal Sonesta. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You absolutely know that customer service is a priority. This time, I stayed in a smaller room as it was a quick business trip. I did notice a difference in sheet quality in the smaller room: not as soft. I suspect lower thread count which for me doesn't make for the best of sleep.

Gem of hotel and service
Royal Sonesta DuPont Cir is a great hotel. I was slightly hesitant about making a reservation because of some of the previous reviews. However my experience was exceptional. Amazing large room, comfortable bed and all the staff I encountered were very welcoming and friendly. I appreciate the security swipe feature for the elevators and front doors later in the evenings. The only minor issue I encountered was the features of the television wouldn’t allow me to stream or access hotel services.

It was really a difficult experience for me. I was supposed to stay for two nights, but my plans changed, and there was no flexibility in canceling the second night. Further on the one night I was there. There was an emergency alarm that went off at four in the morning as a false alarm and made us all Leave the hotel. There was no staff on site who is knowledgeable and knew what was going on.

First Impression of Washington DC!
Well, I was truly upset that this hotel charges the same rate as others in the neighborhood but is the only one that does not offer shuttle service to and from the airport. The King Deluxe Spa room is very dated, furniture is torn and looks like it has seen better days. The TV was on it's last leg, the color hues of pink and purple were the only colors present on the screen. Their is only one spot to charge using USB so make sure you bring a wall brick if you want to charge your phone or ear buds. The spa tub had an inch of standing water in it when I arrived, the electronic control board had holes in it and the jets were yellow and unclean. The lights over the sink sang a high pitch tone until I ran the blowdryer and then they just dimmed and flickered and gave up. Not a high end stay, but the sheets were clean and the staff was super friendly.

Having been a regular guest when this was formerly a Kimpton property (Palomar Hotel) I was disappointed to see a slow decline in the standards of decor, cleanliness and guest service - and all charged at a premium rate. The location remains great, the facilities and appearance of the rooms much in need of refurbishment.

I was in town for homecoming weekend with my family and we stayed at The Royal Sonesta and it was absolutely lovely. The hotel is clean, the staff was professional and best of all it was centrally located. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
