The location is great, old Centre. The room was ok, the floors were squeaky and the bed was an alarm that went of by your every miniscule movement. I burned myself almost in the shower when the shower decided for itself apparently that I had had enough cold water. It was time for some boiling water on my back while I had shampoo on my head and in my eyes. You can't deny the shower's comedic timing....
Now Basil Fawlty. We arrived late, about 21.30h. It was raining and we had driven for 10 hours, so we were done and longing for a warm and cozy place. Before we arrived I called the hotel's reception to reserve a parking space (you have to do that, because Salzburg centre is free of cars). The man at the reception didn't want to use too much words. Nothing wrong with that and I was glad that when we arrived, there would be a parking reservation on my room number. Of course when we arrived the man behind the counter (and I'm quite sure is was the same man on the telephone) didn't know anything about it. He seemed rather done with us as soon as we entered the building. Basil, as we started to call him, didn't like to use words. So he kept is verbal skills to a minimum and used volume and the imperative instead. It worked.....
Now we make jokes about it, but for a hotel with four stars this was obviously completely unacceptable. The man was rude, he completely denied anything about a parking spot and even if it wasn't his fault, he could have helped us. Rest of staff: great!
