The Hana House is very nice and the staff works hard to keep it very clean.

My stay great. Property is in great condition, and staff was amazing helpful.

Hostel itself is very clean, excellent staff, workable kitchen, etc. The only down side is that it’s a short drive or a long walk to most trailheads & of course any other loud/inconsiderate guests. The place is great though!

6/10 Good

Room description was inaccurate- there was zero air conditioning available in the rooms. The only option were fans/heaters that did not work properly, or open the windows which resulted in freezing temperatures overnight. Bathrooms got incredibly dirty quickly in the mornings, but overall stay was ok with a great location and a good restaurant next door.

Newer and larger building compared to the Queenstown location we stayed at! Really comfy mattresses and the rooms had a mini fridge and plenty of hooks and hangers. The kitchen was very large and the hostel was very clean. Walls are a bit then but no issues with ear plugs!

There were really clean and modern kitchen and lounge. But it’s a bit pity that the dryer place didn’t work well when I stayed.

Location is wonderful. There are no many options for budget travelers around Mt Cook. Yet it is worth to visit. Staff are friendly. Price are competitive.

Good location. A little bit noisy, we can hear someone is taking from the room nearby.

Clean and seemed to be well managed. Stayed two nights in an 8 bed dorm. Deducted one star as the internet wasn't working for a few hours the first morning.

Room for 8
I had a late check in and I forgot to let them know but luckily then left the key with my name on it in an envelop. The place was very clean. It looks new and simple. Staff were nice. I will be back for sure.

6/10 Good

Overall stay was acceptable. It was easy to get there, lots of available parking space and cooking facilities were adequate. However, there was no hot water for showering on our first night and it is abit noisy with people walking around. Not sure if the hot water ran out on the first night as the place was fully booked (we showered around 8pm). We intentionally showered earlier on the second night (arnd 6pm) and there was no issue. We might have been unlucky with the water heating but would recommend to shower earlier, esp if you’re intending to stay in the winter.

I was told that the bed i was about to select had bugs! I had friendly roommates; wouldve been nice to know that i was booked 📖 into a hostel & that I'd be sharing a room with up to 7 other people.

6/10 Good

Really liked the property - easy to park, great access to Mt. Cook and everything is beautiful around this area! Staff was great, but the one downside (that didn't effect me) is if you arrive after the staff leave, you will have difficulties getting in if you failed to contact the property before getting there. They are nice enough to leave all the keys where you can still get into your room, but it requires that you know the code to the door, which you would not know if you do not check in with the property before arriving. While the bed was mostly comfortable, it was not quiet until well after when I wanted to sleep and unlike most hostels, people were not very aware/kind of others need for sleep. This is the second Haka House I've stayed in, and none of them provide towels, which makes me very unlikely to ever go back to one - who doesn't need to shower? And what traveler is bringing a towel with them??? Also the rooms were quite hot until well after 2AM, even when it was only 50F outside. Not an excellent hostel, but the location was superb!
Caleb, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

It's a good place, but we paid twice what we paid for other places on our 4,5 week trip and this wasn't worth it. There are shared bathrooms that are ok and a nice kitchen area, but you are not allowed to drink or eat in you room and we had to remove dovets and pillowcases ourselves and put in their laundry basket. It was also a lot of noise, music and people opening and closing doors. It's not big stuff but really, for that price, nope.

4/10 Fair

Disappointing stay.
This was rated as a 4 star hotel on hotels. com and on arrival it turned out to be a backpacker hostel with shared shower and toilet facilities. Not something that was evident when booked. TV didn't tune to channels, no facilities within the room, WiFi was poor and no breakfast available. The room, however, was clean and well kept but the hostel was noisy. Left very early, very disappointed.
