New hotel just south of the main colombo center
Dwell is a very new hotel under Japanese management, located in Colombo 03. About 10 minutes by tuk tuk south of the main central area (Pettah market, station, Dutch hospital). Rooms in hotel are nicely decorated. The hotel was still in soft opening when we stayed there. This meant for instance no alcohol in the bar at the pool (no license yet).
Hotel has a nice little pool on the rooftop, with limited amount of sunbeds. Guess when hotel is full it might be tough to find a sunbed, despite the fact that there is a floor with space for sunbeds even a level higher than the pool.
Few points for improvement: no shade whatsoever around the pool area, which is really a missed opportunity as the sun in Sri Lanka is HOT. Breakfast choice is very limited, either an American or a Japanese breakfast, cooked when you order (which is good) but when staying a few nights it gets really boring. Suggest a buffet once hotel is fully open and more busy.
Bit disappointing was the service when we wanted to have a late check out at 5 pm (had to be at airport at 7pm). Although there were hardly any guests in the hotel, we could only get until 2 pm, for later check-out we would have to pay half room rate. Understandable under normal circumstances but in a new, and almost empty hotel.......
Service of the bell boys downstairs was EXCELLENT!!
