Be aware these are very basic rooms above a busy and noisy restaurant. Check in is at the bar and not at all friendly.
We had phoned ahead and booked meals for both nights. But no booking found for either and made to feel like a nuisance rather than receiving an apology. Service on 2nd night was terrible. Told it would be a 25 min wait for our dish, but took 50 mins. Waited after finishing mains for someone to come near us to ask about coffees etc but ended up walking out after around 30 mins with no one coming near us. People beside us returned their food complaining too. Seemed to be being run completely by students with not a single 'grown-up' anywhere to be seen. Would go to the near-by Premier Inn instead next time.
The room was lovley and fresh perfect for what we needed. Staff were very friendly and tentative would definitely stay again. Breakfast downstairs was also beautiful
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Despite the grill not being open (last minute change) we had various options in the nearby town.
Room was clean and comfortable
Not our usual place of choice however booked due to other premises being booked up. Didnât know what to expect other than images. Closest comparison would be a Travelodge style. Twin beds that were comfy if duvet not a little small however comfortable. Good tv with freeview. Nice large bathroom with one of largest shower cubicles which was very pleasing and very good pressure. Staff very friendly. Just a couple of points for improvement. Lock from the street was awkward to unlock even for the staff showing us to the room. Handle to the room was also coming away from the door and no emergency phone number left for when staff not on site.
There are no elevators and the stairs and about 2 flights and kind of steep. The hair dryer is appalling, so loud you could hear them down the hall. If you have luggage, you wonât wat to take them. The restaurant is excellent! Incredibly good food.
We were very disappointed on arrival to be told that there wasnât a room for us due to maintenance issues but we would be put on a house that consisted on 2 en-suite bedrooms and a kitchen. No living room or eating area. There wasnât much we could do about it. I was very disappointed that we were not in the hotel with the bar and restaurant just downstairs and there was no eating area in the self catering house that we were offered but it was modern, very clean, great showers and the Y-not were helpful when we frquested more towels and some ice.
Was a nice enough hotel but was charged twice after a staff did not register me paying when I first arrived. Website also said â1 double bedâ but all of the rooms are single beds. The food however made the night, 10/10 couldnât fault it.
Disappointed that the tv was not working - I was told it would be sorted out but nothing actually happened.
I felt a bit fobbed off.
Very noisy âŠ
Good points .. very clean.. and thatâs it.
However in shall never stay here again.
The y not does excellent food, service is good, albeit Monday morning was busy for breakfast with very few staff and thus a long wait for a lukewarm breakfast. Room was nice and spacious, shower room very new but view was non existent. Thurso is a grey, depressing place which is slowly crumbling. Y not did well with what they have. The bar/ dining area is noisy with constant fairly loud music. Room was quietish but a compressor went constantly and hindered sleep.
Comfortable bed. Decent sized room. Good food. Excellent breakfast. Stayed here before catching ferry to Orkney and it is very conveniently located for the ferry port.
The rooms at Y-not were comfortable and clean, the staff in the restaurant area were as helpful as could be and friendly. Only downside to this Inn is its owner, there was a faulty fire alarm at 4am on the night we were staying, the SECOND faulty fire alarm in two weeks at this Inn. And although the owner actually turned up this time to reset the box (the fire department couldn't get hold of anyone the first time), she didn't look at any guest stood outside or apologise without being sought out by us, after we had been stood outside for 45mins. While they did give full refunds and late check out this was only due to it being requested, again not offered with an apology by the owner. If it was not for this experience I would happily stay again.
The hotel was fine - fairly basic and generic hotel but did the job. Bar/Restaurant downstairs and a bar next door also. Lots of easy free parking and big supermarket right opposite.
