I will start by saying the employees and service was excellent. The hotel inside was very nice and inviting. It is in a busy part of town near China Town and the central train station.
My friend and I requested a canal view room and accepted a single bed instead of two. Upon entering the room and looking out the window, we only saw another building. We immediately requested another room that they seemed a little hesitant to put us in. It did not take long after settling in to understand that seeing the canal from our room was over rated. It was so noisy from people at the outdoor Cafe, on the sidewalk, and boats blaring their music that I didn't think I would be able to sleep. Thankfully that wasn't a problem for me. Beware if you are a light sleeper, though. Opt to take a room on a higher floor.
The canal rooms also have indoor stairs. You need to be very careful as the black carpet is the same color as the floor and there is no light to illuminate them at night. Being older, my friend and I were very careful so we didn't miss the last two steps where there was no railing. Unfortunately we think a woman in the room above us fell and hurt herself as she was screaming probably in pain after we heard a loud thump.
Overall, once you are in the hotel, a very nice stay.
