This is a lovely hotel with excellent service and big comfortable rooms. We had paid for half board so were very surprised when we were hit with a ‘discretionary’ service charge when we came to leave. We thought everything had been paid upfront. Dinner was excellent but breakfast was extremely ordinary, No better than at a Premier Inn or equivalent.
The excellent service and convenient facilities were somewhat marred by the constant reminders that if we were to take anything home we would have to pay high prices for the replacement. This was particularly ridiculous in relation to a book which had been left in our room, supposedly chosen especially for our enjoyment. It had obviously come from a charity shop for £2.99 and was quite battered. We don’t have a problem with this but apparently had we chosen to bring it home with us. we would’ve been charged £7.50.
