More affordable than others and the reasons why...
Positives: We had a view room upstairs, quiet, clean and moderately comfortable. Property was maintained and clean. It's well located to most everything in Pacific Grove within a short walk or drive. Pacific Grove has a great neighborhood feel as does the Lodge. Next door is a fun eatery, Lucy's.
Less attractive is the age of the property. The owners have maintained it as well as possible without major renovation. 40 plus years has served it well but it's time to renovate. No doubt the cost is overwhelming but how much longer? Other properties nearby have the same problem to some degree.
The room furniture shows long time wear. The bathroom was the smallest I can recall while on the road with an inward swinging door that made it even more ridiculous to navigate and comes with "baby's first potty" as a toilet. Thankfully, toilets have gotten larger in the past 40 years, but maybe a larger one wouldn't fit in this tiny space. Our bathroom floor vinyl was badly stained from underneath most likely to mildew. Old style bathroom fixtures from the 80's with a wall mounted selection of shampoo, body wash and conditioner.
No USB ports, few wall plug-ins. Only two large patio doors with bifold shutters allowed great amount of light and huge amount of ventilation, if needed. Can't leave the slider door open at night for ventilation. No A.C if it was a warm or hot day. A mixture of super hard to lumpy bed pillows to choose from.
