If you don't want to pay the crazy Algiers hotel rates (you easily pay 250 Euro/night for mediocre quality), and if you don't mind the 30-45 minutes travel to the city center by taxi or the nearby modern tram system, this is a good alternative. Modern hotel, spacious rooms, wifi (albeit unstable and sometimes slow but hey, this is Algeria), OK breakfast for a french speaking country and VERY clean. In a lively neighbourhood with real Algerian life going on (schools, mosques, shops). Steps away from the sea (not a great beach but a nice boulevard for a stroll). Very quiet at night so maybe not for women travelling alone. But... it's not close to the center.
