Fawlty Towers in the high Tatra mountains
Dysfunctional hotel in a beautiful setting. I booked a two night stay at hotel Montfort based on the pictures of an exceptionally talented photographer/Photoshop expert. A few moments after reserving a family room, I received a call from the receptionist telling me there was an issue with the rooms and if we would be ok with a regular 2-person room. Having a very lenient nature, I agreed as they would provide us with a botte of Prosecco and a fruit basket upon check-in. Horrendous was the experience as we entered a worn-out Soviet style hotel, with none of the promised goodies. My complaints were ignored by all present personnel which leads me to suspect a scam operation: a large two-bathroom family room is advertised as the only one available. Once you reserve they tell you a story about overbooking and propose you a smaller room. This way they can sell their rooms at a premium rate. The occasional complainer is satisfied with a bottle of (inferior) sparkling wine and a free dinner at a mediocre buffet at which they can charge you wines at a per centiliter measure. Double profit!
Apart from this negative experience some positives: exceptional mountain view, satisfactionary wellness facilities and an hilariously degenerated air hockey experience in the basement of the complex.
