The most beautiful hotel room I’ve ever stayed in
Our room was spacious and flooded with light from three beautiful windows. The bathroom was bright too, thanks to a skylight above the shower. The view was the real star: the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi and the valley below, truly breathtaking.
This is not your typical hotel. Everything is handled remotely by WhatsApp or email, with no reception and no one to queue behind. Once you’ve paid the city tax, you get very detailed instructions. A keypad opens the gate to the property and leads to the courtyard, and a second keypad opens the building door. You’re directed to your floor, where the key waits in a lovely sackcloth pouch on the door. Then you step into that beautiful room.
The hotel also gave us a WhatsApp number, and it proved its worth. After a truly special wedding day, we returned around 11:30 PM and I couldn’t find my room access card. I pictured hunting for another room, or sleeping in the car. I messaged the number and within moments had a reply: no problem. I only had to message when I was outside the door and they would open it remotely, and a replacement card would arrive in the morning. That is service that goes above and beyond, and I was hugely relieved. THANK YOU FOR THIS!
We would come back to Assisi in a heartbeat, because the town is spectacular, and I would stay here again and again. I recommend it to anyone who asks, and even to those who don’t.
